⚽ What Happened This Week

Spain Are World Cup Champions

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 to lift the World Cup trophy, and honestly... they earned it. From the opening whistle, they looked more composed, more patient, and tactically one step ahead. They controlled possession, created better chances, and never let Argentina settle into the game.

Things got even tougher for Argentina when Enzo Fernández was shown a red card, forcing them to play with 10 players for the remainder of the match. If soccer wasn't already hard enough... imagine trying to beat the best team in the world while being down a player.

The game stayed scoreless through regulation, but in extra time, Ferran Torres buried an absolute beauty to finally break the deadlock. Argentina pushed for an equalizer, but Spain's defense slammed the door shut.

Spain are your 2026 World Cup champions.

🛋️ Fi’s Couch Report

If you've been reading along all tournament, you know I always save this section for what stood out beyond the box score.

Spain didn't win because they had one magical moment—they won because they had a plan. They stayed patient, trusted their style, and never looked rattled, even before Argentina went down to 10 players.

Sometimes the prettiest soccer isn't about flashy tricks... it's about making the other team chase shadows for 120 minutes.

🤯 Sports Fun Fact

The FIFA World Cup trophy isn't actually awarded permanently to the champions.

The winning team gets to celebrate with the real trophy after the final, but FIFA keeps the original. Champions receive an identical gold-plated replica to take home instead.

💬 One Thing to Bring Up This Week

"Spain didn't just win the World Cup—they were probably the most complete team in the tournament from start to finish."

💭 Fi’s Final Thoughts

Well... that's a wrap.

What started with 48 teams turned into one incredible month of late-night games, unbelievable goals, penalty shootout drama, underdog stories, and enough emotional rollercoasters to last until the next tournament.
